Bikers Against Diabetes Ride

June 8, 2003

Today snuck up on me so fast I just wasn’t ready for it.  Somehow I managed to get out an email at the last minute Saturday and still show up on Sunday morning. I’m not sure if time is speeding up or I’m slowing down. Anyway we met at 8 am at

Spires across the street from Westminster Harley for breakfast. We had plenty of time to chat cause the ride didn’t start till 10 am. We had plenty of time to check out all the typical accessories at the dealer, like the doggie apparel, hats, scull caps, collars, etc., not to mention the gas blender and the Hog cookie jar. After perusing a while we all mounted up and headed down the GG Fwy towards Santiago Canyon and the meet at Oak Canyon.  When we arrived, we apparently were some of the first to show at the park cause we got close up parking. By the time we left, we

rode past a quarter mile of parked bikes behind us. Given the gray weather, it was quite a turn out.  After checking out the vendor booths, signing up for the club chapter challenge, and spending, as usual, way too much money, we went back to the bike games area. Somehow we got talked into trying the bite the weenie contest. This may seem normal for a biker day, but Karen and I won 1st place. Then Don joined for the slow race and we had great fun explaining that to win you must keep your feet off the ground. Oh well, then we hit the food line and listened to the two competing bands. After lunch we made another round of the park to make sure we didn’t miss any of the vendors. By that time I had to hit the road cause I had a son waiting for of my time. We left several of the other members at the park and I’m sure there are more stories to hear, but for now it’s back to the grind.  Next week, we are off to Big Sur. That should be an interesting ride. Well even a bit chilly and overcast, you just can’t keep us off the roads. I guess it’s true, we were born to ride.  Well till next time, I’ll see you on the byways……
