Miller Children’s Hospital Ride

April 6, 2003

We started this morning with a rather early rise due to the fact that the clocks changed last night so we all felt like we had lost an hour’s sleep. There were only 2 of us for breakfast at the Denny’s, but 2 more bikes showed up at 8 am for the ride to the hospital. We met with four from our Santa Clarita Chapter at the hospital. After we all got signed in and found the directions for the ride, we headed out to south Orange County. It was a cool morning ride, but quite pleasant. The sun was shining, the traffic was reasonably light, and it was a very clear day.  We stopped at Cycle City in Lake Forrest and checked the place out before heading up into the canyon.  We passed the still busy Cooks Corner. “The rumors of it’s closing were greatly exaggerated.” (Although there is a For Sale sign in front of the place.  Then we rode through the canyon and stopped at Irvine Lake for a short respite before heading back.  As we rode out of the Canyon and back up the freeway, it started warming up. By the time we got to the Golden West exit that the ride map indicated we should use, I thought we were close to the end of the ride. Even skipping two of the detours suggested, we were still late getting back to the hospital. Nonetheless we were able to catch most of the show and we got our included meal from the In & Out truck. Not a bad deal for a $10 donation. After the raffle and the announcements we said our goodbyes and headed back.  Except for the ride taking several turns it didn’t need to, it was a great ride on a great So Cal day. See you on the byways…………….
