11/24/10 At 2:35 PM Jason was born. Within a few hours it was determined that he was having heart trouble and it appeared to be a condition called TGA or (Transgression of the Great Arteries). This is something that must be corrected within the first few days or weeks of life or it is fatal.
11/26/10 Jason arrives at the Children's Hospital in St. Louis for examination and treatment.
11/29/10 The doctors determine that the operation to open one artery should be done to allow more time for Jason to grow before doing open heart surgery. The procedure is scheduled for 8 AM on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010.
11/30/10 Jason is eating normally and appears to have a good appetite.
12/01/10 Today's procedure went well, but we learned that Jason's heart has additional problems. It seems that both arteries end in the same side of the heart rather than just being reversed, and the lower chambers of the heart are reversed, causing all functions to be preformed by the same side. As a result the procedure was ended and the next procedure will take place Friday the 3rd of December and will be for the purpose of placing a shunt to allow oxygen to pass to the entire body . If all goes well with that procedure, Jason will be able to go home for a few months till he can grow a little and be in better shape for the open heart surgery to correct his condition. Next week on Wednesday the 8th, the Medical team will meet to determine a long term plan.
12/03/10 The procedure to place the shunt in Jason's heart was completed successfully late in the afternoon and he went to recovery in good shape.
12/04/10 Jason's oxygen and his IV was removed and he should be able to start eating again this evening. If all goes well over the next few days, he should be released to go home within a week.
12/05/10 Jason's catheter was removed this morning and his oxygen removed this evening. He is eating good, but they did have to place him back on the oxygen at about half the level again. This should only be for a few hours.
12/08/10 We got word this morning that Jason will be coming home later today. It seems that he first must pass the car seat test. I guess they want to make sure that he can sit in the car for the time it takes to get home. I just want to say thanks for all your thoughts and prayers for Jason. Today is a good day !
