Day 9 – July 6, 2003
Ride to the Holy City
Ride from South
Bend, ID to
Toledo, OH
Today was a short ride. We had laundry to do and the bikes
were in bad need of a cleaning. We
decided to ride straight to Toledo
and see if we could get caught up. The
ride was supposed to be a straight shot east, but that didn’t take into
consideration that highway 20 also has an “old highway 20”, and also a highway
20A. One of them put me going the right
direction, but took an hour longer. We figured it out, when it ran out. The
other was a little easier to correct when it went the wrong direction. We only
wasted about 20 minutes on that road.
There were some pleasant surprises though. A hidden river that ran
behind a row of houses and an Amish community! We had an opportunity to observe
the children in school at play. We also
passed the plant where the Hummer is made. Then we crossed into Ohio
and on to Toledo. We checked in and
got to the laundry done and the bikes cleaned, but on the way back to the motel
it started to rain. We managed to get tucked in before the skies opened up and
the wind tried to blow the trees away. I have not been able to get access to
the internet due to the lines all being tied up, so you probably reading this
late.
Tomorrow we re heading for Niagara
Falls, so stay tuned. Till then, I’ll see you on the
byways….
