Day 21 – July 19, 2003
On The Road Again
Ride from Roanoke, Virginia to Spartanburg, Virginia
After a couple of days of rest, Karen was feeling a little
better, so we headed south. We took the Blue Ridge
Parkway for about 40 miles. This road goes on for
several hundred miles and allows no commercial vehicles on it. I think this is
how they keep it pristine. The road is one of the most beautiful in the
country, but you seem to see the same thing every mile you drive. After miles
of looking at the same trees, the same roads, the same overlooks, even though
they were all a little different, there was very little change. No stores, no restaurants,
no service stations, etc. After about an hour or so, we left the road and went
into the town of Floyd. We stopped
for breakfast and found it was too late, so we had lunch. Not a great lunch,
but at least we were full. Then we took the Floyd
Parkway to the I-77 and then down to Charlotte,
NC. We then headed west. On the I-77 we
started to run into rain, but as we turned away from Charlotte,
we seemed to move away from the storm. We got as far as Spartanburg
before Karen’s foot started hurting too much to continue. As we checked into
the motel, it started to rain. We didn’t get wet at all and it stopped about 20
minutes later. This day seemed rather short even though it was a full day of
riding. Perhaps it was because the ride seemed rather boring. Perhaps tomorrow will
be more eventful and I’ll see you on the byways…..
