Day 31 – July 28, 2003
Homeward Bound
Ride from Moorefield, Nebraska to Denver Colorado
We left my brothers place this morning after a few stare
downs with his dogs. We left around 7 am
and the rain started around 7:30 am. We hadn’t gotten past the first town when it
hit. Fortunately it only lasted about an hour and didn’t rain hard. We had on
our gear, so didn’t get wet much and were dry by the time we got to North
Platte. Even though I had been there before, I didn’t
know that Buffalo Bill had been born and is ranch was there. This is the first
time I had actually seen a tourist trap in its original form. I also found the
store fronts around there interesting.
The terrain around here is still pretty flat, you can tell
because there a lot of trains out here, they are long, and you can see the
entire length of the train, but by the time we get to Wyoming,
it is starting to show signs of the mountains coming back. Then out of the
blue, here come da clouds again. Fortunately we were
able to go around them and only got a few drops.
As we pass the outskirts of Cheyenne
and I see the capitol dome, I remember that this is where I was born. I was
raised only about 50 miles from here in Laramie,
but we decide to head south toward Denver
so that we can shorten the trip a little more for sake of time and Karen’s
foot.
Just before we get to Denver,
we pass the Budweiser plant and I am reminded that it as well as Coors are from around here. Then I see the most unusual business
building I have seen in a long time and all made from glass.
We may spend another day around here as well, because this
was where my miss-spent teen years were passed.
When I get back on the road tomorrow or the next day, I may have to
skirt the byways……
