Pre-trip thoughts 2004

As I prepare the web pages for this trip, it starts to sink in that we’ll be on the road again. This last year has been filled with so many changes that I have not ridden as much as usual and I find myself missing that feeling. While I would never recommend anyone use or not use a helmet, I realize that on this trip we will not be required to wear one in any state we will visit except for Missouri. Once we cross the state line, we may decide to go topless.

I must keep reminding myself that this is a trip to visit my son as he graduates from boot camp. He has decided as did his father (Marine Corps), and his grandfather (Navy), that he will make a military commitment (Air Force), to this country. As much as I hate the idea that he joins the service at such a scary time, I am so very proud of him for doing what he feels is right, that I cannot find the right words. So as much as I am looking forward to the ride, I am looking forward to supporting him much more.
