Honda Hoot Trip |
June 23, 2007 - Day 7
Today
was a long and busy day. We met a couple from Kentucky that we met yesterday for
breakfast this morning, and then rode with them up to the dam.
It was another beautiful day and a lovely tree lined
26 mile ride. We ran into several other
riders along the way and by the time we arrived at the dam, there were about
20 of us. We had lunch under the
dam and it was a lunch of catfish, that was much better than I would have
thought. We then rode up over the dam
and across it, over the mountain and then back via the 25. This highway had to
be the main north/south road before the 75 was put in. The buildings, roads, and
pretty much everything else was very old. Still to their credit out here they
managed to find antiques to advertise for sale. Some where a long restoration
job away from being worth anything, but I could see their point of view. When we
got back to town, we went back to the park and the vendor booths, David wanted
to get his chain tightened. Karen and I looked at possibly getting her a new
Mustang seat, but in the end she decided against it. We checked the raffle again
just in case, but our tickets failed again to be lucky. Then
it started to rain. Not a bad rain, just enough to cool things off. We
decided to head in the general direction of the coliseum and stop somewhere to
get something to
drink. We stopped at a place none of us had ever been to before called, "Wishbone".
Karen and Katie had some sweet potato fries, and we had ice tea and cokes to
cool us off. When we arrived, we noticed some out of place motorcycle cops, and
I got a picture of them. Katie ask one of them if she could test ride one of
their bikes. He said that we could ride that old Triumph that was setting there.
We all laughed, only to later find out that this specific Triumph was ridden by
their senator, a guest speaker, and the cops were his escort. Go figure. We were
then entertained by a 50s singing group before they started calling out raffle
ticket numbers for a half dozen very expensive prizes including the biggie, any
Honda motorcycle in their line. Needless to say we
didn't win, but it was fun anyway. One last event was the Party on the Block
downtown. We decided to check it out, and enjoyed the food and entertainment,
then decided to call it a day. Tomorrow morning we head back home, so I need to
finish this up so that we can get packed up and ready to go. We'll be headed 1st
north, then west. So if you happen to be riding in Kentucky tomorrow we may just
see you on the byways.....
